I am reading a biography about Roberto Clemente right now. Without critiquing the book, I have to say I am drawn to Clemente. It’s not so much because of his baseball exploits, or the fact that he died while serving others. Sure, those are admirable facets of his larger than life persona. However, I think I am drawn to him because he “got it” – and that’s why so many loved him while others found him to be an enigma.

“If you have an opportunity to make things better, and you don’t do that, you are wasting your time on this earth.”

Anywho, as I mentioned previously, I have embarked on writing a Christian novel. I hope to have the proposal (which includes synopsis and at least two chapters) done before the end of March. Part of my motivation for the book is based in these versus:

Verily I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of Heaven. ~ Matthew 18:3

Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. ~ Mark 10:15

As I learn more about Roberto Clemente, I think he understood these versus well when so many others are dumbfounded by them. For that reason, I think he belongs in the book in some fashion. I’m going to do my best to make it happen.
